President Tye Gets To Baptize

President Tye has been able to baptize seven new members of the church this month. Words can not express the joy this experience has brought to him as he assisted the seven in their first ordinance and covenant with God.

Tying Ties At The Tye's

  

At the end of full-time missionary service, every departing missionary gives us a signed necktie. The ties are then tied onto the handrail in the Mission Home. Tying the ties to the handrail is a promise that each leaving missionary will continue to Hold To The Rod throughout their life.  A pledge that they will not let go of the peace and strength that comes from The Word Of God.  

In the beginning I planned on making a quilt with all the ties, but when I realized that three years of missionary neckties would total over 500, I decided that I needed to come up with another idea. Pinterest is my 'inspiration location' and I found a design there that I knew would work. By using the smaller end of the necktie it would be possible to make it beautiful and also be the perfect size for a wall hanging. So in March I designed a sample square and gave the sample plus all the ties to Blessie, the quilt lady.

The Cavite Mission Tie wall hanging is finished and it is gorgeous. The different colors of ties and how they are arranged is truly stunning. In the middle is an embroidered list of all our Elders, Sisters, and 
Senior Couples from 2013-2016.

The Tadina Family

I have a marvelous story to share.

A few years ago President and Sister Tye were blessed to have Elder Tadina and Sister Fernando serve in the Cavite mission. Both were excellent missionaries, and served as leaders within the mission. Their hearts were locked and both were very obedient and faithful in their quest to be the "Lord's hands here upon the Earth."

After their full-time service was over, they started to date each other. Dating led them to courtship, and eventually they were married in the Manila Temple. Now they have a beautiful little daughter. 

The Tadina family came to visit us this week. Because they BOTH served in our mission, and because the Philippines Cavite Mission is only three years old - President Tye and I consider their daughter

After missing our own grandchildren for three years, you can imagine how excited we were to see and hold their sweetheart. Thank you for coming to visit us - you are a cute ETERNAL FAMILY!
And famous too.

 

 

Our Last MLC

With mixed emotions we held our last Mission Leadership Council today. We now have a better understanding of the word Bittersweet!

MLC was just what we needed - it was perfect! Our theme for June is Faith To Baptize. The 5 hour meeting was centered on the theme and the missionaries assigned to teach were amazing. The Sister Training Leaders sang a song of appreciation to us, and we thought we heard angels singing with them. It was beautiful! Everyone was looking at us waiting for Sister Tye's cloud burst to hit, but I managed quite well and surprised almost everyone, including President Tye. 

The leaders of our mission have heavy loads. I am speaking about the Assistants, Zone Leaders, District Leaders, and Sister Training Leaders. They are to be examples of EXACT missionary OBEDIENCE at all times. They have assigned areas to do missionary work just like all other full-time missionary companionships, but they also have to go on exchanges. Exchanges means that they split up and spend 24 hours with each elder or sister with whom they have stewardship over. So they "exchange" companions for a whole day, and depending on their assignment this can happen as many as 12 times per month. Our leaders also teach lessons at Zone Meetings and District Meetings. We are really amazed and in awe at their diligence and dedication to this work!

We will miss the Elders and Sisters. For three years, the missionaries have been a great BLESSING in our life. How lucky we are to have these memories and blessings forever!

Sister Thomas and Sister Garcia

 Sister Garcia made breakfast for her companion a week ago and was burned by hot grease that splashed on her. After MLC her huge blister was accidentally bumped and it opened. It was a blessing though - she was taken to the ER and we found out that it was infected. After being medicated, cleaned, and wrapped up; both sisters were ready to get back to their apartment and allow the burn to heal. 

Goodbye Elder Rodrigo

Elder Rodrigo is leaving a few weeks early to be available to attend college. It was very difficult for him to leave before the rest of his batch. We know he loved serving the Lord and we will miss him. Good luck and keep in contact with us!

 Elder Rodrigo's badge is off because President Tye was the one responsible to release him as a full-time missionary. This is the only time this has happened in the three years we have been here. Elder Rodrigo's family moved to a District within our mission boundaries during the two years he served here. His heart was broken as he took off his missionary badge.

Elder & Sister Simon talked about the importance of having 72hr backpacks filled and ready for an emergancy. They also showed us what they are finding when the apartments are inspected. Sad but true, most of the missionaries do not keep their 72hr backpacks filled and ready. The bags are filled to pass inspection, then the missionaries are eating the contents.

 My classroom setup for the Stake Relief Society workshop on May 7th. The topic was, "Preparing our children (and I added families) for missionary work." I prepared an activity and handouts for 150 sisters and came home with an extra 5. That was pretty close to right on. 

 

 In May the Mission President Seminar was held in Cebu. We were very excited to fly to another island, and Cebu is beautiful. The Cebu Temple has now become one of our favorites!

 I was suffering from food poisoning and could not eat my nuts and M&M's. That is pretty sad!

 

 The most wonderful people I know! You can tell that we have given so much to our callings - we all look exhausted! I will love these dear six friends forever. We have listened, loved, hugged, cried, and laughed together for the past three years. A special bond will always connect us. The phrase "You Are In The Philippines" will always remind us of each other.

 President to me - he is stuck in traffic and sent me this message so I will know why he is late getting home.

 Me to President - according to WAZE, EDSA was clear at 3:10pm! Never ever is EDSA in the green! Must have been election day because this never happens. I had to record the moment, unbelievable.

President and I are having a conversation and I copied this to remind me at a later date of how busy and dedicated we were to pressing forward.

10:56am - I just hung up the phone from scheduling a date for our household items to be packed and shipped back to the United States . . . and I'm crying. President comforts me.

2:19pm - I needed to make cookies for an upcoming event and I was tired.

8:08pm - President is frustrated with the traffic but prays for patience.
